Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, Heidelberg

Opening for PhD Position at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research Dep. of Cellular Biophysics & University of Heidelberg, Dept. Biophysical Chemistry.

Title: Spatio-temporal mechanobiology of three-dimensional cell collectives

Work place: Stuttgart

Project Description

Cells in our body reside mostly within the confined environment of tissues, having complex connections with the neighboring cells and the extracellular matrices. Cell-cell pulling forces and cell-matrix traction forces play as a mode of information transfer for realizing these connections into biochemical events. Further, the physical and chemical nature of the micro-confinements surrounding the cells, strongly influence their phenotypes and more importantly their behavior as part of a collective. The project will consist in the biophysical analysis of the mechanism controlling collective migration in physiologically relevant 3-dimensional cell cultures.
